The release of a guidebook on dōjin ongaku (同人音楽, amateur music) reported on the still not work-safe Akiba Blog is a fine excuse to mention the existence of this particular mode of personal/fan expression in Japan. As mentioned in the Wikipedia article on 'dōjin music', the term denotes a particular manner of publication rather than a musical genre.

Follow-up on our last post on 'soft power'. Via ANN: the Japanese government has filed an official request to its US counterpart, demanding that more be done to prevent illegal online distribution of Japanese anime.

ComiPress has just launched this very interesting venture: a freely available English translation of 'Manga Zombie', a book on gekiga artists written by Udagawa Takeo. The project's goal is to introduce these often lesser-known mangaka to a wider audience.
