Another workshop on manga and fan culture at Groenendaalcollege high school

Earlier this month we organized a Dutch-language workshop on manga and fan culture for fifth-years at the Groenendaalcollege high school, which went along the same vein as that other workshop last year. Students listened to a very short presentation on manga and fan activities such as dojinshi and fan fiction and then used characters from their own favorite movies/TV series/comics to make a short intro to manga in comic book form.

Conference wrap-up, and looking for good podcasts from Japanese universities

Some final notes and observations following "Comics Worlds and the World of Comics" in Kyoto. I had a great time, learned a lot, and was quite impressed in general. The amount of fail was surprisingly small for an academic gathering (a few people excepted), and several presentations gave me some very helpful pointers and new ideas.

Conference "Comics Worlds and the World of Comics: Scholarship on a Global Scale" underway

I'm having a great time in Kyoto at "Comics Worlds and the World of Comics: Scholarship on a Global Scale", the first international conference on manga/comics research at the Kyoto International Manga Museum, organised by Kyoto Seika University. Met a ton of interesting people with very interesting ideas that I'll write about in length later.

It's alive! A short update on the manga library and the project

My apologies for the prolonged silence. Work on my PhD project, the new website for Japanese Studies, manga translations, lesson plans, our uni's next Japan Week, and the manga library has been utterly insane for the last couple of months.

Manga library closed in first half of July

The manga library will be closed during the first half of July and open again on Tuesday, July 21. Enjoy the summer holiday, everyone.
