Another workshop on manga and fan culture at Groenendaalcollege high school
Earlier this month we organized a Dutch-language workshop on manga and fan culture for fifth-years at the Groenendaalcollege high school, which went along the same vein as that other workshop last year. Students listened to a very short presentation on manga and fan activities such as dojinshi and fan fiction and then used characters from their own favorite movies/TV series/comics to make a short intro to manga in comic book form.
This year we had comics-about-manga based on the following original titles:
- Gossip Girl
- The Simpsons
- Samson en Gert (I love the Youka Nitta pic that pops up bang in the middle of this comic)
- Kabouter Plop
- Spongebob (The closing image for this one is such a great find)
- Beauty and the Beast
- A million other Disney characters (One of the pics in this one is not really safe for work)
- SOS Piet (This is a Belgian cooking program. I can say with a great deal of confidence that it would never, ever have occurred to me to make a comic out of this one)
- Mystery series (I can't figure out which series these are from. Even TinEye couldn't help. Can anyone enlighten me?)
Word balloons were added with Superlame. Comparing these to the comics made during previous workshops, I get the impression that participants are gravitating progressively further away from manga and closer to freewheeling creative insanity. Which is not necessarily a bad thing :) Thank you to everyone who joined in!
