How to browse and search the knowledge base
The Let's Manga online knowledge base of academic articles, books, and interesting non-academic manga tidbits exists outside of this site as a group on the social bookmarking service Diigo. Good explanations of Diigo's advantages and drawbacks abound online, so we're not going to busy ourselves with that here. (Note: Diigo just underwent a major overhaul, adding a lot of very useful features. We will be discussing these soon.)
A few nifty things you can do with the bibliography:
- Browsing by tag: At the bottom right of the main page on Diigo, you'll find a window displaying all of Let's Manga's tags. When you search by tag, you get a list of all other tags that have been combined with the tag you searched for. Try adding some of these suggested tags to refine your search. The full tag cloud also graces the main page of the knowledge base on this site.
- Viewing cached pages whether you're logged into Diigo or not: Diigo saves a cached page of everything we bookmark, so there's always a copy even when the original link is broken. These cached pages are visible to anyone who visits the site. Click on 'snapshot' under the bookmark title.
- Add your own entries: Diigo's still in beta, so the service isn't entirely mature in some ways. But compared to other social bookmarking services, it's hard to beat in the 'social' aspect. (Plenty of good explanations of this online, for example this video.) Create your own Diigo account, make yourself a member of the Let's Manga group, and bookmark at will.
