Bio: 

Hans Coppens is educational technologist at the Faculty of Arts, KU Leuven and a senior staff-member of its Japanese Studies section. Since 1997 he has been conceptualising and coordinating e-learning projects in a number of disciplines in the Humanities, often with international partners. Also responsible for developing and implementing Open Educational Resources which find their application at the faculty level as well as in Japanese Studies.

As a web-developer he builds and manages a substantial part of the KU Leuven Faculty of Arts’ web presence and a number of similar initiatives outside the academic theatre.

As a teacher Hans Coppens plays a key part in several courses on the BA and MA level including Methodology and Digital Literacies in Japanese Studies, Information Science, Online Publishing, Introduction to Japanese Culture, Modern History of Japan, Politics of Japan.

His professional interests include, but are not limited to, educational technology, Open Source methods, Japanese media and popular culture, (self-directed / informal) learning, curriculum architecture and net-politics.
